I was in Strasbourg last week and managed to get a photograph of the Palais de Justice.



Frintz and Luntz were the "Post Office" killers executed in front of the Strasbourg prison in October 1921. Where was the Post Office they tried to rob ?

Andre Obrecht's first experience of the family business ?

Looking through Slyvian's website - I believe their case was retried in Colomar ? This was, by co-incidence the other town in Alsace which I also visited.

About the exact location of the post office : it was the one on place du Dôme (maybe there isn't anymore there). The killers strangled the night watchman and stole 230.000 francs on December 28th, 1920. They were condemned twice, once in Strasbourg on February 24th, 1921 (less than two months after the crime) but the verdict was "revoked" because of an error in the trial ("vice de forme). So they were condemned for the second time by the Cour d'Assises du Haut-Rhin, in Colmar, the next 12th of July.

On October 20th, they were both beheaded in front of the old prison of Strasbourg, rue du Fil. Indeed, young André Obrecht (he was 22) was there but only as a eyewitness. So was he for Landru's execution, four months later. He became second assistant on April 04th, 1922, and did his very first execution in Paris on May 23rd.

I'm new on this forum and I would like to give you some precisions about the execution of the 2 murderers Frintz & Luntz in Strasbourg.

I'm french, living in Strasbourg (sorry for my bad english).
My grand'Ma was there when the execution took place in Strasbourg.
When I was a little boy she said in our Alsacian dialect "de Luntz un de Frintz sin vor de Post gekaepft wore", that means "Luntz and Frintz were beheaded just in front of the Post office".
The gate of the prison is in the "rue du fil", and this street came out to the "rue de la fonderie".
They were not guillotined just out of the rue du fil, but they had to cross the rue de fonderie because here was the post office, already on place now.
And here you find a little place in front of the door of the post.
At this place, on the cross of "rue de la fonderie" / "rue du fil" / "quai Schoeppflin", the heads fall down.

I'm sure you were there if you visit the Palais de Justice, it's just in front of this place, on the under side of the river.

Excellente photo Mercattore! J'en ai aussi trouve une copie sur Delcampe il y a quelques mois. Malheureusement une fois aggrandis et decoupes de l'arriere-plan les deux condamnes a mort sont bien trop flous pour pouvoir figurer sur mon palmares... Y aurait-il une meilleure photo de Frintz and Luntz quelquepart?

Oui, c'est dommage , Boisdejustice, les visages sont trop en biais et pas assez nets aussi. L'on va bien finir par trouver des clichés valables.
